26 Sep French Toast
As much as we all love French Toast, we have to remember that a lot of our favorites are high in saturated fat and sugar, which provide unnecessary calories. So, how do you make French Toast more healthy?
Use whole meal or brown bread (I know the white and milk breads taste better!)
Replace refined sugar with maple syrup or honey or low-sugar jam.
I’ve been making French Toast for so long that I’ve perfected the steps, so it is :
- easy to make
- uses basic ingredients
This recipe works with any type of bread – white bread, brown bread, whole wheat bread, milk bread and French bread.
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
- 6 bread slices
Preheat the non-stick frying pan or griddle over medium heat.
Using a rubber spatula or your hands, flatten the French toast by dividing in half.
Whisk the eggs in a shallow and flat bottom plate. Add in cinnamon, sugar, milk and vanilla and whisk well.
Doing fast, dip each slice of bread into the mixture, flip and dip the other side of the slice.
Place the slices in a pan and cook both sides till they turn to golden brown for 2-3 minutes.
Flip the other side and repeat for the remaining side.
Serve hot with your available toppings like honey, maple syrup or strawberries.
- You can use honey or maple syrup other than sugar.
- Don’t cook on a high heat.
- Don’t dip for longer because it will absorb the eggs and will take more time to cook.
