17 Aug Dum Pakht
This Dum Pakht Gosht is a mouth-watering delicacy that is popular across Pakistan and India and takes 50 minutes from start to finish including all the slicing of meat! I also uses basic pantry ingredients so don’t worry I am not sending you to the store for oyster sauce or any other seasonings.
Everything in this recipe is available in every grocery store.
You can choose the kind of meat you’d like to use for the dish.
This is an easy dish to throw together, but the trick is to ensure that the meat is tender when done! A dinner party that will be loved by your guests.
- 2 kg mutton/beef
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 and 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 5 onions, sliced (thick slices)
- 10 cloves of garlic
- 5 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 inch ginger, sliced
- 6-8 green chilies, chopped
- 2 tbsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 cup water
- 3 potatoes, sliced
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
- 1 chunk of ginger, sliced
In a pressure cooker,add meat and mix with vinegar, salt and oil and make a layer of the meat at the bottom and spread it all over.
Now make a layer of onions on top of the meat along with cloves of garlic.
Spread a layer of tomatoes, then ginger and green chilies in a pressure cooker.
Sprinkle the black pepper and red chili powder and do not mix.
Now, in the end, add water and cover and cook over a medium heat for 20 minutes.
Now, transfer the meat in another pan and add the sliced potatoes and cook over a medium heat till tender for 10-15 minutes.
Garnish with coriander and ginger and serve hot along with roti/flat bread and enjoy!
You can cook in a pan if not using pressure cooker. It will take a little longer to make the meat tender and by covering the lid of the pan with flour dough and cook on low heat for 2-3 hours.
