Dal Mash 

This is the recipe I like to make every time and it is always been very basic.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup daal mash
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 ½ cups boiled water
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3   cloves
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp methi leaves
  • 1 tbsp fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions 

STEP 1
Soak dal mash overnight or for two hours at least before cooking.

STEP 2
In a pan heat oil over a medium heat.

STEP 3
Add chopped onions in oil and cook them till they become soggy.

STEP 4
Saute ginger and garlic paste for about 1 minute.

STEP 5
Add red chilies powder and stir constantly.

STEP 6
Now add boiling water in the mixture along with dal and cook on medium to high heat for 20 minutes uncovered until daal/lentils are soft and water is dried up by stirring occasionally.

STEP 7
Once, daal is cooked, add cumin seeds, black pepper and cloves and cook for 2 minutes.

STEP 8
In the end, add salt and mix well and cook for an additional minute.

STEP 9
Now garnish with methi and fresh coriander in the end.

STEP 10
Serve this dal with flat bread or nan.
