Paper wrapped chicken is a famous dish enjoyed throughout China. The food is not actually wrapped in a white paper, sometimes, foil is being used to wrap it. This is the best appetizer I have ever tried.
The secret of this recipe lies in it’s marinade. Once the wrapped chicken is being deep fried, the marinade caramelizes onto the chicken and other ingredients as well!
This will become your favorite chicken recipe! Paper Chicken goes well with just about any side dish you can think of. Serve it up with veggies or cauliflower mash!
- 2 cups chicken boneless cubes
- 6 green chilies
- 2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp oil
- 2 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp white pepper
Mix green chilies, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, oil, ginger, brown sugar and white pepper in a large bowl.
Add chicken boneless cubes in the marinade and combine well and put in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Make 10-15 squares of aluminum foil or parchment paper. Place one square on your work place in a way that one corner of the foil/parchment paper is facing towards you. Place 2 or 3 pieces of chicken in the foil and and fold the near corner up and over the chicken, then fold over once more and fold the sides and securely enclose the filling. Bring the top corner down and tuck it tightly and press tightly so that filling may not leak.
Heat oil in a large pan on medium heat and fry the foil envelops for about 3 minutes, turning them once and don’t over crowd the pan.
Remove from pan and drain excess oil on a kitchen towel.
Serve hot with tea and enjoy!
- Don’t overcook the chicken and the foil should not turn black in color.
