I’ve always loved chocolate cake. In my childhood, my eldest sister used to make chocolate cake and we ate it as dessert on the holiday table.

It has a typical chocolate taste and made entirely from scratch with minimal work. The three layers are a fun surprise when you cut the cake. This cake can be best served with tea when guests are expected.

Chocolate Cake



3 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups cocoa powder
1 tbsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
4 eggs
1 1/2 cup buttermilk
1 1/2 cup hot water
1/2 cup oil

1 1/2 cup chocolate cream cheese/butter cheese
1 1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tbsp milk (1 cup)
8 cups confectioner sugar


STEP 1: Dry mix

Mix the following ingredients with a whisk:

  • all-purpose flour
  • sugar
  • cocoa powder
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • baking powder

STEP 2: Wet mix
Now add the following

  • eggs
  • butter milk
  • hot water
  • vegetable oil

STEP 3: Baking

Bake the cake batter from steps 1 and 2 in 3 different pans for 30-35 minutes.

STEP 4:Frosting

Mix the following

  • chocolate cream cheese/ butter cheese
  • cocoa powder
  • milk
  • sugar


Make layers with the cake and the frosting.

Buttermilk is required for this recipe. You can make your own buttermilk if needed. (Add vinegar in 1/4 cup of whole milk. Stir it and wait for 5 minutes until it reaches 1/2 cup). The buttermilk is ready to be used in the recipe.
